Ky Harvey brings home the gold for Alan R Jones!

We are proud to share the great news that Ky Harvey has won a gold medal in the final of a national skills competition. Ky is a full-time apprentice fitter here at Alan R Jones. He recently took place in the final of The Heavy Vehicle Technology Awards, which is a very competitive event under the SCW banner.

Backed by the Welsh Government through the European Social Fund, Skills Competition Wales (SCW) is a series of events held in colleges across the country, designed to showcase the skills of its participants.

The participants had to complete a variety of tasks, ranging from diagnosing vehicle faults and replacing vehicle components to testing braking systems and changing truck brake pads.

After completing 5 hours of intense challenges, Ky ended the day victorious – with a gold medal!

“Being an apprentice means I’ve had lots of experience and learnt new skills, which were useful for the competition,” says Ky.

Following his success in this event, he will now proceed to the UK finals representing Wales later this year.

“Once I complete my apprenticeship, I’m hoping to start full time at the company, and I’d really like to get my MOT licence, so that I’m qualified to offer MOT services,” he explains.

Ky is a typical example of why Alan R Jones has such a great team, demonstrating talent, technical excellence and a drive to succeed. We see a bright future ahead for Ky.

“The business is very proud of Ky’s achievement and we will continue to support him as he goes on to the UK finals. This very clearly demonstrates our commitment to developing our staff, and future proofing our whole teams’ skill set to ensure the business is fit for purpose to meet our customers’ demands in the future.” comments Managing Director Ray Clegg.
