We’re sponsoring the Oarstruck team!

Last weekend (13/05/17) saw the Celtic Manor play host to a fundraising ball for the adventurous Oarstruck team, and Alan R Jones was one of the events’ sponsors.

Oarstruck is the name given to the team due to row – that’s right, row! – across 3000 miles of Atlantic Ocean in a small, specially-designed ocean-going boat as part of the Talisker Challenge, described as ‘the world’s toughest row’.

“A challenge like this can’t be entered into lightly,” comments Ian Jones, managing director of Alan R Jones & Sons, “so we’re more than happy to help fund the team’s preparations, doing our little bit to ensure they’re as safe and successful as they can possibly be thousands of miles from shore. But the actual rowing part – I think we’re all happy to leave that to them!”

The team consists of John Evan Morgan, Joel Wood, Hugo Thompson and Monty Williams, all old buddies from a Newport comprehensive school, who will be taking on a major rowing challenge for the first time.

Alan R Jones is also sponsoring the boat the team will be travelling in. The race kicks off in December and will take competing teams west from San Sebastian in La Gomera, Canary Islands to Nelson’s Dockyard English Harbour, Antigua & Barbuda. Boats cannot take any repair, help or food and water during the crossing, so we say a resounding good luck to all!

If you’d like to join in sponsoring the lads (who in turn are sponsoring Diabetes UK), please take a look at their website here.
