Dan keeps the trucks rolling

Ensuring that Alan R Jones fleet keeps on running is Fleet Engineer Dan Smith. Heading a team of three fitters and an apprentice, his responsibility is keeping the company’s Renault trucks and trailers in good running order, to cope with the demands of daily use on the roads.

“We have a well-equipped workshop, with the latest diagnostic equipment covering all makes and models,” says Dan. “Apart from keeping our own fleet in great shape, we also repair, maintain and prepare for tests of growing numbers of clients vehicles and trailers.” With a lifting capacity of up to 36 tonnes, and a recent investment in new brake testing equipment, the workshop can cope with commercial vehicles of all shapes and sizes.

Dan started at Alan R Jones four years ago, as a driver on the fleet. But his skills with fleet administration were soon noted, prompting a move into the workshop. He’s not averse to rolling up his sleeves and getting his hands dirty, to ensure trucks are out on the road as needed.

When not in the workshop, Dan likes to spend his spare time out on countryside pursuits. Not that he has much spare time right now, as he’s busy renovating his home.
